Length of Chains

Walt 1) Arrange length in order.
                           2) Find Mean, Median, Mode, Range.
                           3) Explain the differences in length.

Pairs
Length of chain in centimetres
Ben & Dion
86
Wesely & Koliata
169
Lorenzo & Liam
170
Ifa & Tane
192
Alyssa & Shanelle
192
Andrea & Lana
200
Ketura & Serena
220
Stephanie & Cherish
286
Petuana & Yazmin
304
Munokoa & Samuel
320
Viliami & Howard
383

Mean of this table is 230.
Median of this table is 200.
Mode of this table is 192.
Range of this table is 297.

I Knew Ben and Dion’s chain was the smallest because it was a sad 86 centimetres long and that Viliami and Howard’s was the longest because it was whopping 383 centimetres long. To make Ben and Dion’s chain longer they would of had to cut the strips skinnier. To have made every one chain longer they would have to cut their strips skinnier.

E-asttle score T4 2015.

Robins eass2.PNG

In this test I got a 4a and last time I had dropped from a 4p to a 3a which was dreadful. I was very proud of myself and I think that my score when up because of my self confidence. Over all  I am above the national standard and I have a pretty good score.

Watched the RWC on Sunday morning.

Watched RWC on Sunday morning.

Watch            Did not

B   G             B   G
10  5             3    7

We got this data by show of hands. It is clear that more boys watched the RWC than the girls. I think it is because the boys are more  interested in the RWC than the girls. In our class we all made a prediction and I had the closest prediction the score was 34 for the All Blacks and 17 to the Australians. I put down 32 for the All Blacks and 17 to the Australians.

All Blacks VS Australia

Image result for australia vs new zealand rugby
This Sunday NZ go up against Aussie. It will be a tough fight but I think and hope the All blacks will come out on top. I predict the score will be 32 to the All Blacks and 17 to the Aussies. I think the player of the day will be Beauden Barrett or Ma’a Nonu. Hopefully you give it your all, All Blacks.

Basic Facts T4 2015

For my latest Basic Facts score I got 656. I Improved by 4 because I had 648 and even though that's not a big leap it’s big enough. The reason I only increased by four is because for every answer you get right that's two points and I got more than before so I have improved.
I think I’m at the national limit only just. The next thing I need to learn is my hcf, lcm and prime numbers.

Not allowed

In the weekend I was not allowed to go to my friend Munokoa's house for the night because my parents did not know my friend. I told them Samuel my best friend who they knew might be going for the night. So they said "if Samuel can go than you can." It turned out Samuel's mum said no because she did not know him as well.

Dear Mrs Parkes

Dear Mrs Parkes

Thank you for all the help you have given not only me but my class. Also for the suggestions you gave to my teacher.

You have really helped me with my writing and I think because of that I concentrate more on my sentences and making sure I have good ideas for my stories.I concentrate more on improving my work than I use to.

I really enjoyed the the 4x4 poem, descriptive writing and persuasive writing. The 4x4 poem was different than anything I had done before. The descriptive writing I have done before but you gave me more ideas for that as well. My absolute favourite was definitely the persuasive writing.

Next term I have to focus more on my editing.

Once again thanks for your help and I hope you continue to help us.

Yours sincerely

Robin

E-asttle T3

Score.PNG
This is my E-asttle score from this term. I have dropped dramatically since my first test this year. I am very disappointed with my score but I don't know what happened, I tried super hard. I tried to get at least 4a but that didn't happened. According to E-asttle I need to learn to estimate numbers reasonably.

Flag change

Everybody In NZ have their own opinion about the changing of the flag and which one they like but, the original flag I grew up with. Seventy percent of NZ want to keep it the same so that means only thirty percent want to change it. In my opinion, why waste twenty five million dollars on something small instead of on something that would make a difference in our communities and the people living here. Yes sure the national flag symbolizes our country but why have a flag that does it for us, tourist don't come to NZ because of the flag they come to see our beautiful scenery and welcoming communities. If we made our communities look better and the people in the communities happier than maybe more tourist will visit and enjoy it more.

The Black Piranha

Walt: Write a descriptive paragraph

                                       The Black Piranha
Swimming in the water are a bunch of little kids, they age for 7 to 14 and swim there everyday. Splashing and skimming the top of the water, as well as stomping their feet making the water dirty. To them their just having fun but little do they know they had awaken the monster of the river, The Black Piranha.

The Black Piranha is a fearsome hunter is the jungle waters. It’s very descriptive because it’s so dark with it’s burning red eyes and a bulldog like body. it’s not very long so it’s more maneuverable in the water making it incredibly fast. These beasts are very cannibalistic but don't hunt in packs like some other fish. They have some incredible  teeth and it’s teeth are some of the sharpest teeth on earth.

The Black Piranha spies on it’s prey from afar not letting them know it’s there. The Black Piranha moves up closer and closer without the kids knowing, but then he strikes out. Munching down on one of the girls leg ripping a chunk out of her leg, Dragging the little girl into the deeps. All the kids charged out of the water and ran home to get their parents but when they came back there was nothing, no trace of their friend.

Battle over Whakaari

Walt: Write an impactful introduction to our maori myth.
I will be successful if I can..........

  1. Follow the structure for a narrative.
  2. Use  a few Maori words in my writing.
  3. Write in correct paragraphs. ( check topic sentence)
  4. Use correct punctuation.
  5. Use a variety of sentences. ( simple, compound, complex)

One dark gloomy day there was an debate over a volcano.
“I demand I get Whakaari.” demanded Mahuika goddess of fire.
Mahuika is lava red with brown eyes who has a bad temper.
“Why, you would only threaten the people into doing what you want.” Shouted Tangaroa god of the sea. Tangaroa has a kind soul. He is blue with baby blue eyes and has tribal markings on him. “Settle down you two or I send you to the naughty corner.” Yelled Ranginui god of all gods and the sky. As the day passed on Mahuika kept demanding that Whakaari was to be hers. Till finally Tangaroa had enough. He Jumped into the sea and said to Mahuika. “If you want Whakaari come get it.” Threatened Tangaroa as he swam away. Mahuika Flue over to Whakaari with the biggest grin on her face saying to But as she arrived Tangaroa had a surprise for her.

Tangaroa’s children surrounded Whakaari as he stood proud waiting for Mahuika to land.  Tangaroa striked out with rage cutting Mahuika face with his Trident. She Flared up red with anger looking like the sun on a summers day. Things got real and out of hand really fast causing each one to hurt each other. It was becoming dusk and this is the time when Mahuika was at her best burning Tangaroa and throwing him around like a rag doll. Finally and the sun had gone down and it was time for Tangaroa. He turned into the biggest meanest thing you would ever see It was a gigantic water Lion that was as blue as a summer sky. But before he could hit Mahuika this happened…….

Ranginui stomp his foot. Bouf, he had heard about this and arrived just in time and broke up the fight before things got worse. He yelled at the top of his voice. “STOP!.” They listened and calmed down. Ranginui suggested they came up with a peaceful solution. So they made a treaty saying Tangaroa is the barrier protector of Whakaari and Mahuika protects the land of Whakaari.

Seven years have passed and they have had no arguments. It has been peaceful no trespassers and no fights until…….

To play this game you needed to know your fractions and ratio to understand this game. My answer was ½ because that's what thought was right. This game was challenging at first but then it got really easy because I was focused. Next time I could be more focused at first.

Word problems

Today I had to do a word problem for my teacher, She said to choose on of the three she wrote down. My word problem and equation was.

Equation $34 x 200
If there are 34 Year 8 students at GIS and for the full uniform cost $200.00, How much money will it cost for all the students uniform all up
Answer= $2800.00

It was super easy because all I had to do was skip count in two hundreds thirty times, Then another four times. With the result of this I thought I answer was $2800.

ww1 letter

Peak camp, Egypt
April 1918

Dear Family
It is me I am writing a letter to you from the front line It’s not that bad we get average food meat for breakfast and dinner and for lunch we get army biscuits.

We live in trenches which I don’t particularly like but it is what keeps us covered. It is surrounded on the top by sandbags and barbed wire. It is very damp, muddy and filled with rats.

88 people have been wounded and 79 died this past week. It’s not usual for that to happen the Germans have stepped up their game. They got golden mortars, advanced sniper rifles and home made riot shields.

It is normally sunny but some mornings are misty and some of us say we can see our ghostly foes and at dawn and dusk when the skies are crimson.

I have been ranked up to general the highest rank. I hope Marian sends me some chocolate, I have forgotten the taste. If I don’t make it back alive I want you to be happy at my funeral. I love you all, and my son kia kaha.

Your loved one

Trench's from WW1

rok
This is the trench model we made based on WW1. I worked with Wesley and Lorenzo. We made it out of play dough.

First we did research about trenches. Then drew our plan on a piece of paper. Then I started to construct it with play dough I had to make it by myself because my partners were absent. When we painted it my team members were there to help. The easy part about it was drawing it and the hardest was working with Wesley. Now my teacher thinks I cannot work in a team but a matter of fact I can but with the right people.

My best weekend

My favourite weekend was when I went to Waihi down the line. We went to check out the gold mines and the big hole in the ground.

As we were driving down there we spotted a busker on the road and his mates in the bushes waiting for someone to stop and pick their friend up so they can go too. So we left them. When we got there the first thing we did is check out the hole in the ground. They said it was more than 20 km deep and and 15 km wide. When we finished we went to the gold mines a man that works there took us around on a tour. When we finished he gave me a little present for using my manners all the time. He gave me a little piece of gold Not much but something to remember that day by.

On our way back home I fell asleep I was remembering the day I had But it wasn't over yet. I got woken up I was back in Auckland I got to have McDonald's for dinner This was possible the most exciting weekend of all time.

Till this day I still got that piece of gold somewhere.
